IBM, Livermore Laboratories announce new partnership, third-party services

6/27/12

The Washington Post: On Wednesday, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and IBM unveiled their planned partnership, known as “Deep Computing Solutions,” to provide third-party access to LLNL and IBM’s joint human capital and computing power. The partnership aims to tackle “big data” challenges faced by private and public sector entities. The Washington Post explains, “This means an engineering company, for example, would have a faster design cycle; a company managing large data would have better insight on that data; a plant would have better economies of scale and better returns on investment.” LLNL and IBM made this announcement in conjunction with a Capitol Hill briefing featuring Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.).
